Manuscript notebooks containing detailed notes on the geography and people of Brazil, including a hand-drawn map of the Amazon basin. Vol. 1 has the pencilled title page designation "Ms. Notes of Statistics of South America," but focuses mainly on Brazil, including notes on currency, weights and measures, geographical features, and finances. Vol. 2 has the designation "Ms. Geographical Notes," but includes notes not only on geographical features of the provinces of Cearà€ and Pernambuco, Brazil, but also on the people of the region (especially the Sertanejos) and their customs and dress.
